Angry parents in a Philippines school have burnt the school down after the students were not given the food promised by a government program.
The angry parents had claimed that the students were not given the money promised by the government to boost school attendance, police said on Tuesday.
The one story Gaib Elementary School in Masbate island province, central Philippines was totally burnt down and had only been left with gutted walls.
The school was reported to be empty when it was being torched by the parents and there were no reported injuries.
It was reported that the parents had argued with the teachers of the school because the students were not given enough rice. It was promised by the “Food for School” program created by the government to encourage more students to go to school in impoverished areas of the country that 1 kilogram of rice would be given to the students.
The arson left nearly 150 students aged 5-10 without a classroom, Benigay said, adding that important records also were lost.
