Pakistan reviews relations with the USA and NATO after the death of 24 Pakistani soldiers by NATO gunship aircraft in a dark incident last weekend near Afghanistan border.
Islamabad / NationalTurk – Pakistani Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani, ordered to close the route through which flows 50 % of fuel and supplies received by NATO troops stationed in Afghanistan.
Yousuf Gilani described the attack as ‘a serious violation of the Pakistan sovereignty’ and ordered to thoroughly review all programs, activities, and cooperative agreements with the USA, NATO and International Security Assistance Force for Security, including those diplomats, political, military, or intelligence.
Ultimatum and diplomatic note from Pakistan to USA
The commission also asked Washington government to vacate the Shamsi base in no later than 15 days, from which they operate their drones to fight the Taliban. Meanwhile, the Pakistani Foreign Ministry summoned the U.S. ambassador to Islamabad, Cameron Munster, to make a vigorous protest note.
At dawn on Saturday, NATO fighter jets and helicopters indiscriminately strafed two Pakistani checkpoints near the border with Afghanistan. Pakistani military leaders stated NATO commanders had clearly identified these posts and know that in recent years the Taliban were not active in the area. The attack Saturday near the Afghan-Pakistani border aroused popular anger in Pakistan and added tension to the U.S.-Pakistani relationship, which has been under pressure since the secret U.S. raid inside Pakistan that killed Osama bin Laden in May.
At the time of the attack, most of the checkpoint Pakistani troops were sleeping. At least 24 were killed and more than a dozen wounded.
