Pakistan Supreme Court has ordered the arrest of Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf in Rs 22 billion Rental Power Projects (RPP) scam.

Islamabad, Jan 15/Nationalturk – In a major blow to Pakistan government, country’s Supreme Court has ordered the arrest of Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf in Rs 22 billion Rental Power Projects (RPP) scam.

According to Pakistan newspaper, Express Tribune, Supreme Court ordered all other respondents in the case including Prime Minister Raja Parvaiz Ashraf to be arrested. The court gave law enforcement agencies 24 hours deadline to implement the orders.

It said country’s anti-corruption body National Accountability Bureau (NAB) will be responsible if any of the respondents manage to escape.

“The chief justice ordered that all concerned, regardless of their rank, who have been booked in the case be arrested and if someone leaves the country, then chairman of National Accountability Bureau will be held responsible along with his investigating team,” lawyer Aamir Abbas told media persons

PM Ashraf was given  title of “Raja Rental”

According to media reports in Pakistan, Prime Minister Ashraf was given the title of “Raja Rental” after he was accused of receiving kickbacks in the rental power projects. He was also accused of buying property in London from money earned through corruption in various scams.

In the case, nine RPPs firms were accused of receiving more than Rs22 billion as a mobilisation advance from the government to commission the projects but most of them did not set up their plants and a few of them installed them but with inordinate delay.

Ashraf has been defending himself in the Supreme Court.

Meanwhile, as the news about Supreme Court’s order became public, Karachi Stock market crashed and the index fell by 450 points.
