Pakistan’s newly elected Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has proposed softening of laws to facilitate media outlets of the two countries.

Islamabad, July 19/Nationalturk –  With journalists from India and Pakistan facing tough time in discharging their duties owing to hostile relationship between two countries, Pakistan’s newly elected Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has proposed softening of laws to facilitate media outlets of the two countries.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Indian TV channel Zee TV Subhash Chandra called on Nawaz Sharif yesterday. “During the meeting, Pakistan prime minister said India and Pakistan should soften regulatory regimes to facilitate media outlets and reach out maximum viewers both in India and Pakistan”

He called for facilitation and relaxation of laws so that Pakistani channels could be seen in India.

Nawaz highlighted the role of media in bringing people of India and Pakistan closer. “The media could help in achieving shared goal of peaceful and friendly relations between the two neighboring countries”.

Media is most effective tool, shaping perceptions

Stating that media is the most effective tool for shaping perceptions, he expressed hope that media of both the countries would play constructive role more sensibly to bring people closer and shift the focus towards peace, economic prosperity and well being.

Nawaz Sharif said Pakistan and India possess rich cultural and traditional heritage that is shared by many, on both sides of the divide. “The media was the most effective tool for shaping perceptions and could effectively be utilised to play its due role”.

At present no Indian journalist is in Pakistan and no Pakistani journalist is in India. On occasions India bans Pakistani news channels and Pakistan responds by banning Indian channels.
