Police in Pakistan’s Punjab province have freed three terrorists to secure release of eight abducted cops.
Islamabad, July 17/Nationalturk – In a major embarrassment for Pakistan’s security agencies, police in Pakistan’s Punjab province have reportedly freed three terrorists to secure release of eight abducted cops.
“Police released three Lashkar-i-Jhangvi (LJ) terrorists in exchange for release of eight policemen abducted by gang of bandit Chotu Mazari in Kacha area of Rajanpur district of Punjab province yesterday morning at an agreed location,” reported Pakistan’s newspaper Express Tribune quoting sources.
The newspaper said a lawmaker of ruling PML-N Atif Mazari had struck the deal with Mazari’s aide Patt Umrani.
“The bandit gang had released three civilian abductees on Monday after receiving Rs 2 million ransom,” sources said.
Bandits refused to return 12 weapons seized from abducted policemen
The newspaper said the bandits, however, refused to return 12 weapons they had seized from the policemen after overpowering them in the pickets.
Express Tribune reported that police released three terrorists of banned Lashkar-e-Jhangvi. The released terrorists were identified as Bashir Bakhrani, Ishaq Changwani and Razzaq Changwani.
The newspaper quoted sources as saying that police has also agreed to remove pickets from some river Indus islands, thus giving a freehand to the bandits.
The bandits had overran police pickets on three islands in the Kacha area of Rajanpur, Kacha Karachi, Kachi Jamal and Baggiani on July 7. “They had abducted at least nine policemen. One of the cop was killed and his body was recovered by the policemen,” a police officer said.
