Pakistan fighter jets Friday bombed militant positions in country’s north western Khyber region on killing 15 terrorists.
Islamabad, Oct 3: Pakistan fighter jets pounded militant positions in Jamrud and Bara areas of north western Khyber tribal region on Friday killing at least 15 terrorists.
“Pakistan air force’s fighter jets bombed militant positions in Jamrud and Bara areas of Khyber tribal region,” Pakistan army spokesman said.
Khyber is one of Pakistan’s seven semi-autonomous regions governed by tribal laws and lies near the Afghan border. The dreaded Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TT) and other Al Qaeda-linked groups, who stage attacks in both countries, are known to have strongholds in the zone.
Army sources said three militant hideouts were completely destroyed in the air strikes in Sipah, Malakdinkhel and Chapri areas of Jamrud.
They said among the dead militants are some of the foreign militants.
Pakistan army launched operation in NWA on June 15
Pakistan army launched operation named Zarb-e-Azb in country’s North Waziristan tribal Agency (NWA) on June 15 to target local and foreign terrorists hiding in the area.
According to Pakistan army, over 800 terrorists have been killed in over three month campaign in the region. “The command centre of the terrorists has been destroyed and their capability has been reduced significantly”.
The terrorist attacks in Pakistan have dropped significantly since June 15 military operation. The militants have failed to strike big. Although they made couple of attempts to target major military and government installations but those attempts were foiled by Pakistan security forces and the attackers killed before they could have caused any damage.
