Pakistan Army has said the border issues with neighbouring Afghanistan have been resolved.

Islamabad, April 16/Nationalturk – In a significant development signaling thaw in relations with strife-hit neghbouring country, Pakistan Army has said the border issues with Afghanistan have been resolved.

“A delegation of Afghan army officials headed by Director General Military Operations (DGMO) Afghan National Army Major General Afzal Aman visited Pakistan army General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi yesterday. They met Pakistan army DGMO Major General Ashfaq Nadeem Ahmed ,” a Pakistan army spokesman said.

He said the two sides held talks over border coordination.

“The meeting of senior army officers was held in a cordial environment. All ongoing cross border coordination issues including border post construction in tribal Mohmand Agency were discussed and amicably resolved,” the spokesman said.

He said both sides agreed on continuation of such bilateral interactions to enhance bilateral border coordination and reduce space for detractors.

First visit of top Afghan military officials to Pakistan

It was the first visit of top Afghan military officials to Pakistan after recent strain in the relations following border clashes between the two neighbours. Earlier, this month Afghan government had asked Islamabad to halt ‘provocative and unacceptable activities’ along the border. It had also objected to ‘uncoordinated construction’ of a Pakistani check post.

“Establishing a gate by Pakistan on the Durand Line and inside Afghanistan is against all international norms,” Afghan defence ministry spokesman General Zahir Azimi had recently told reporters.
