In a major relief, Pakistan and Afghanistan Saturday agreed to re-open their border, which was closed since Friday.
Islamabad, Dec 29/Nationalturk -Pakistan and Afghanistan Saturday agreed to re-open their border, which was closed due to alleged incident of beating of Pakistani truck drivers by Afghan forces.
“Afghan Ambassador to Pakistan Mohammad Umar Daudzai called on Pakistan’s Special Secretary Ministry of Foreign Affairs Alamgir Babar at Foreign Office, here today. The two sides discussed the recent incidents, where Pakistanis returning from Afghanistan were beaten near Kabul,” Pakistan’s Foreign Office spokesman Moazzam Ali Khan was quoted as having said by Pakistan’s State news agency, APP.
Khan said Afghanistan’s envoy promised that the matter would be investigated and action taken against those responsible for the incident.
“Afghan envoy has also assured that such incidents would not occur in future,” he said.
Khan said based on assurances given by Afghan Ambassador, Pakistan agreed to reopen the Pakistan-Afghanistan border which was closed since Friday. “The necessary instructions in this regard have been issued by Ministry of Interior Affairs”.
Pakistani security guards had closed the border crossing on Friday for the second time in a week to register their protest against what they termed illegitimate treatment of Pakistani nationals by Afghan security forces in Afghanistan. The closure of border stopped all supplies to Afghanistan and entry of thousands of Afghan nationals into Pakistan.
