Indian army Tuesday accused Pakistani soldiers of crossing Line of Control, defacto border between India and Pakistan in Indian administered Kashmir and killing two soldiers and injuring another.
Srinagar, Jan 8/Nationalturk – In what could signal escalation of tension between nuclear armed South Asian neighbours, Indian army Tuesday accused Pakistani soldiers of crossing Line of Control, defacto border between India and Pakistan in Indian administered Kashmir and killing two soldiers and injuring another.
“A group of Pakistani soldiers crossed the LoC in Mendhar sector in Poonch region of Kashmir this morning,” Indian army spokesman Lt Col Rajesh Kalia said.
He said the Pakistani soldiers taking advantage of thick fog and mist in the forest area near LoC were moving towards Indian posts. “Indian army patrol party detected the movement of Pakistan army men and fired on them”.
Kalia said Pakistani soldiers returned the fire and heavy exchange of fire between the two sides continued for some time. “In the ensuing fire fight two Indian soldiers were killed and another injured”.
He identified the dead soldiers as Lance Naik Hemraj and Lance Naik Sudhakar Singh.
Pakistanis are said to have chopped off heads of 2 Indian soldiers
However, Indian wire news agency, PTI, reported that during the assault on the Indian patrol party, the Pakistanis are said to have chopped off heads of two army men, one of which they carried with them.
It said Army did not comment on reports that they had been beheaded.
The news agency quoting sources said weapons and other material carried by the dead and injured soldiers were taken away by the Pakistani army men.
Pakistan army has, however, denied its involvement in today’s incident.
“Pakistan military officials deny Indian allegation of unprovoked firing,” Pakistani army spokesman said in a text message, a wire news agency reported.
Earlier, on Sunday, Pakistan had alleged that Indian army had raided a Pakistan security post in Pakistan administered Kashmir and fired on Pakistani soldiers. It had said two army men were injured in the attack and one of them later succumbed to injuries.
However, Indian army has denied Pakistan’s charge and said no such incident had taken place in Hajipir sector along Line of Control as was claimed by Pakistan.
