Osama Bin Laden has emerged again and said Al Qaeda will kill U.S. captives if the United States executes any member of the terrorist group including Khalid Sheik Mohammed one of the alleged mastermind behind the September 11 bombings.
The threat to U.S. citizens came after an audiotape was sent to Al Jazeera and aired on Thursday.
The 74 second audiotape which has been translated to U.S. officials said “The White House has expressed its desire to execute him (Mohammed), the day America makes that decision will be the day it has issued a death sentence for any one of you that is taken captive.’’ The message by Bin Laden comes as U.S. officials decide on how they will proceed with the terrorist prisoners they hold, in the US military prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. U.S. officials have dismissed the threat saying Al Qaeda usually kill U.S. captives anyway. However, the dismissal of the threat by U.S. officials will do little for American citizens in Arab countries where Al Qaeda usually operates as experts see the threat as a sign that the terrorist group will do more operations to capture innocent people. According to U.S. intelligence Al Qaeda do not have any U.S. born captives but a Taliban group, closely linked with Al Qaeda has a U.S. soldier names as Private First Class Bowe Bergdahl, who is supposedly been kept in Pakistan. Mohammed is known for publicly expressing his feelings at being executed in the U.S. as he will become a martyr.
