The former Al-Qaida chief Osama Bin Laden had to pay Rupees 50,000 as bribe to Pakistani revenue officials to construct a safe-house in country’s garrison city Abottabad.
Islamabad, Dec 28/Nationalturk- The world’s most wanted militant and Al-Qaida chief Osama Bin Laden had to pay Rupees 50,000 as bribe to Pakistani revenue officials to construct a safe-house in country’s garrison city Abottabad.
Pakistan newspaper, The News reported that this interesting revelation was noted in Osama’s diary, which was seized during the US operation in Abbottabad in May 2, 2011. Osama was killed in an operation conducted by US Navy seals on May 2, 2011 in the safe house in Abottabad. The compound was demolished by the Pakistan Army earlier this year.
13700 documents were seized from Osama’s safe house
United States and Pakistan investigation officials had found about 137,000 documents from the compound of bin Laden. These documents included diaries, which Osama used to write on daily basis.
The newspaper quoting sources reported that US troops took several documents along with them from Osama’s house as a proof. “But the Pakistani officials discovered a diary in which Osama had described that he had to bribe the revenue officials for construction of his compound”.
It is a unique incident in the history when the Patwari (revenue official) had taken bribe from the most-wanted militant of the world.
Media reports said Patwari (revenue official) was in complete ignorance about the identity of Osama when he was taking the bribe from him. “But the diaries, which were translated, revealed that Osama was not only well aware of this practice but the bribe was also given with his permission. The accounts were also obtained from the revenue officials after being translated from his (Osama) diary”.
Osama was allowed to construct a three-storey house with 14-feet high outside wall and erect iron fence on it in garrison city of Abbottabad.
Sources said Pakistan officials arrested and investigated the Patwari (revenue official), who took bribe from Osama. They said it is not known whether he acknowledged or admitted that he had taken the bribe.
Pakistan’s Judicial Commission probing Bin Laden’s presence in country had pointed out weaknesses of the institutions in its report and delineated the poor performance of these institutions.
