US President Barack Obama presented Israeli President Shimon Peres with the Presidential Medal of Freedom, naming him the essence of Israel itself and a man who earned his place in history long ago.

Peres’ Washington visit comes at amid rising violence in Syria and worries in the U.S. and Israel about Iran’s nuclear ambitions. Peres said the threat posed by Iran’s leaders must be stopped. But he said Israel supports Barack Obama’s efforts to pressure Iran, the biggest troublemaker in the Middle East in the eyes of USA and Israel, making a special point to note that US President has announced that all options in dealing with Iran are on the table.

To Barack Obama, Peres said: ‘You have pledged a lasting friendship for Israel. You stated that Israel’s security is sacrosanct for you. So you pledged; so you act. So you are acting as a great leader, as a champion for peace.’ with saliva dropping.

Peres’ words also included praise for US President Barack Obama’s efforts to build an international coalition to meet this Iran threat and to implement economic sanctions while keeping all options on the table, moves Israel supports.

Shimon Peres, a long-time advocate of the effort to make peace with Palestinians, also reiterated his support for a two-state solution and his belief that both sides should be working toward its realization at this very demanding times.

Among those attending the black tie White House dinner were Vice President Joe Biden, first lady Michelle Obama, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and former President Bill Clinton. Also among the invited guests in the East Room were former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright and some members of US Congress, including Democratic Sen. John Kerry of Massachusetts and Republican Sen. Richard Lugar of Indiana, both veteran foreign policy specialists.

Obama needs the support of jewish voters badly

Us President Barack Obama won in 2008 with 78 % support from Jewish voters, according to national exit polls in the USA. Nemesis of  Democrats, the Republicans don’t expect to win over the community outright in 2012. They want to win enough Jewish Democrats and independents to change the outcome in some swing states in the US presidential elections.

Barack Obama has been losing support among Jewish voters in the USA, according to a Gallup survey. Obama has 64 % support from Jewish voters compared to 29 % for Republican challenger Mitt Romney. In an October and November 2008 survey, Obama had 74 % support from Jewish voters, 10 % points more than he has today. The ‘ Presidential election now ‘survey polled 576 registered Jewish voters between April 11 and June 5 and has a five-point error margin.
