Nuclear weapons are on alert / Russia holds maneuvers with nuclear submarines
Russian nuclear submarines left for maneuvers in the Barents Sea in the Arctic on Tuesday, and the Strategic Missile Forces in Siberia were practicing with mobile rocket launchers – two days after President Vladimir Putin ordered the nuclear forces to be on high alert.
The Russian Northern Fleet said several of its nuclear submarines are involved in exercises designed to test how they behave in storm conditions.
Warships tasked with protecting Russia’s Kola Peninsula and its naval bases would join the maneuvers. In the Irkutsk region in eastern Siberia, units of the Strategic Rocket Forces have distributed rocket launchers for ICBMs in forests to practice inconspicuous deployment, the Defense Ministry said in Moscow.
