Nigeria’s Islamist terror, group Boko Haram leader Mohammed Zangina has been arrested according to the military in the northern part of the country.
The Military said he was detained in the Government Reserved Area GRA of the north-eastern city of Maiduguri last weekend.
Rumors went round last week in the northern part of the country that the group is planning of an attack against civilians in the city and the military might have tracked him there to arrest him.
Boko Haram has been fighting the Nigeria government wanting to overthrow the government and establish an Islamic state but many analysts doubt these claims by the group.
The group has admitted being behind a number of attacks against churches and other establishments since 2009 and more than 600 people were killed last year in attacks blamed on it.
The military statement said Mr. Zangina was leader of Boko Haram in the North Central part of Nigeria and co-ordinator of most of the suicide attacks and bombings in Abuja, Kaduna, Kano, Jos and Potiskum.
He was also a key member of the group’s Shura Committee, and a 25m naira ($159,000) reward had been offered for his capture, the statement added from the Military.
