Nigeria – More sectarian violence between Muslims and Christians

Nigeria sectarian violence

Nigeria – Muslim men who disguised themselves as soldiers, butchered and then burnt 13 Christians in Nigeria in the same area where just a few weeks ago a sectarian massacre, killed over a hundred Christians.

Many women and children were also victims of the latest killings at the Byei and Batem villages in the Riyom region of the central Plateau state. Locals are blaming security officers and the army of not acting quickly to protect them.

An eye witness that did not want to be named has told Nationalturk.com EN that she had counted 12 bodies, which in which all had deep slash wounds from the machetes and knifes that was used in the raid.

She also explained that many of the bodies were half burnt, and there were old women, young adults and children among the dead.

State Information Commissioner Gregory Yenlong said “I can confirm that 13 people have died while six others have been critically injured,”

A senior government official who visited the village confirmed that a young boy, three women in their 60s and two teenagers were among the victims at the village. There was also at least six homes that were torched by the killers.

Relatives of the dead were seen screaming and crying in grief.

Officials say that the latest attacks are believed to have been carried out by the Muslim Fulani ethnic group, which was also behind last weeks massacre in three Berom villages near Jos.

Though officials say 109 people were killed in last weeks attacks, some people say more then 500 people were killed.

Officials in Nigeria are getting very worried of the on-going violence in a country where Christianity and Islam followers are divided equally in number.
