Amnesty International in their latest report has accused the Nigerian Security Forces of carrying out wide spread of crimes and human rights abuses which include enforced disappearance, extrajudicial killings and torture.
Abuja / NationalTurk Africa News – Amnesty International also blamed Boko Haram for widespread atrocities, including killings, burning down of churches and schools, and attacks against the media as well.
The right group in their New International report on Boko Haram violence in Nigeria called on the Nigerian Government to ensure that citizens are fully protected within the provisions of the law.
” People in Nigeria are facing human rights violations at the hands of the state security forces mandated with the protection of citizens, and this need to be addressed as soon as possible ” the right group said in the report.
Amnesty International to meet with Nigerian Government
The Secretary General of Amnesty International Salil Shetty is expected to hold a crunch meeting with some senior cabinet members of the Nigerian Government.
It is unclear what will be the outcome of this high level purported meeting due to take place later this week.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian Security Forces have rejected these claims by the right group saying it is ”unfounded without basis”.
The Nigerian Army spokesman Col SK Usman told local journalists that the security forces are working within the jurisdiction of the law and will never under any circumstance do what Amnesty International is claiming.
“There is no Nigerian soldier that goes out on the streets to just kill innocent Nigerians, so whatever we do; we always make sure it is done within the ambit of the law.” Usman voiced out to reporters.
