New rules on Mallorca beaches! Attention, high penalties!

It is currently high season in Mallorca and holidaymakers are looking forward to a break with lots of sun, beach and swimming.

But in the north of the island some new rules have now come into force that travelers should definitely follow. On the one hand, because otherwise there is a risk of high penalties and on the other hand, because otherwise you risk your life.

Playa de Muro is one of the most beautiful and, above all, the longest sandy beaches in Mallorca. It consists of four areas over a total of six kilometers and, in addition to the size, holidaymakers are particularly impressed by the fine sand and clear water. On Tripadvisor, more than 3,000 of the almost 4,000 reviews are positive. Due to the long sandbank, the beach is family-friendly, while there are also many opportunities for water activities. The nearby beach of Can Picafort is also very popular with holidaymakers. But with all the holiday joy, there are a few things to keep in mind. Because the municipality of Santa Margalida, to which both beaches belong, has issued new rules – and they’re tough.

The new rules on the beaches of Santa Margalida

The new ordinance of the municipality, which has been in force since Thursday, stipulates various bans. In the future, campfires and spending the night on the beach will be completely prohibited. Loud noises must also be avoided, music must not be louder than 40 decibels. You are not allowed to take sand with you. On the beaches of Can Picafort and Son Bauló, which also belong to the municipality of Santa Margalida, dogs are no longer allowed in the high season between May 1st and October 31st. Furthermore, the new regulation stipulates that washed-up seaweed may be transported away to a greater extent than before. The aim is to further boost tourism, reports the “Mallorca Magazin”, among others.

In addition to these measures, which are more for the benefit of the community, a regulation to protect holidaymakers has also been established. In the future it will be strictly forbidden to go into the water when the red flag is waving.

What happens if you don’t follow the rules?

Anyone who does not comply with the new regulation must expect high penalties. Depending on the “offence” it can even get really expensive for vacationers. Anyone who swims at Playa de Muro with a red flag, for example, has to pay a fine of up to 2,500 euros. In the future, for your own safety, you should only go into the water if it is really safe.
