NATO troops start installing Patriot batteries in Kahramanmaraş
NATO troops began installing batteries of Patriot missiles in the southern province of Kahramanmaraş on Tuesday.
Military vehicles sent from Germany were unloaded from a Danish-flagged Suecia Seaways ship at the port of İskenderun in the southern province of Hatay on Monday.
Along with the military vehicles, there were 130 containers of military equipment, which were sent to Kahramanmaraş with a convoy of 45 vehicles.
The Patriot missile batteries will be deployed in Turkey as part of a NATO decision to support Turkey’s air defense against a missile threat from Syria.
In addition, Patriot missiles from the Netherlands arrived in Turkey on Monday, which Dutch troops unloaded on Tuesday morning to be sent to the NATO’s İncirlik air base in Adana province.
US-sent Patriot missiles are to be deployed at Gaziantep province, bordering Syria. As a border town, Gaziantep hosts thousands of Syrian refugees who fled the violence in Syria.
