Murder Process in Pretoria: prosecutor lodges an appeal against Pistorius ruling / Breaking News

Oscar Pistorius

Five years in prison for Oscar Pistorius are the prosecutor not enough. She wants to proceed against both the verdict and the sentence against.

In the case of Oscar Pistorius, the prosecutor’s office in South Africa as advertised appealed. This did not only to the sentence as well as to the conviction for manslaughter of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp, said the prosecution.

The prosecution had accused the Sprinter murder and demanded at least ten years in prison. After the verdict, the prosecution was disappointed. Pistorius’ defense had pleaded house arrest and community service.

Whether the appointment is approved by the competent court, is still unclear. To murder is life imprisonment in South Africa, which means 25 years of imprisonment in the common law practice. Pistorius had accepted the judgment.

On September 12, Judge Thokozile Masipa had the 27-year-olds convicted of involuntary manslaughter. On 21 October she announced the sentence: five years in prison. An offense against the Arms Act it assessed three years probation. After the delivery of the judgment Pistorius was immediately arrested and taken to the Pretoria Central Prison.

Pistorius had Steenkamp shot in the night of Valentine’s Day, 2013 by the closed toilet door in his home. In court, he had always maintained, to have kept the girlfriend for an intruder.
