About 520 people were arrested in Canada today as a result of the largest police raid since the beginning of protests over higher university tuition in Quebec province.
According to CBC News television channel, mass arrests were carried out in Montreal, Quebec, and Sherbrooke on Wednesday night.
Police arrested 176 people only in Quebec City by virtue of Law 78, passed by the provincial government last Friday
The measure of the provincial government of Prime Minister Jean Charest, suspended lessons at universities and colleges until August due to the student strikes, in an attempt to end Canada’s most massive student demonstrations ever.
The students protest the Quebec government plan aimed at increasing university tuition up to 70 percent, an about $1625 USD more, to be enforced from 2012 to 2017.
According to a recent survey, the course of the economy is exactly the main concern of the Canadian population, above other issues, such as arm trafficking, criminal gangs, and drug addiction.
