Military Cargo Stolen from U.S. Base Fort Lewis, Washington State.
Washington / NationalTurk – The Pentagon is offering a 10,000-dollar reward for information leading to sensitive military technology that the Department of Defense has reported missing from a base in Fort Lewis, Washington, where more than 100 soldiers remain in detention under suspicion.
US FoxNews reported that the electronic equipment missing from Lewis-McChord, a joint Army and Air Force Base, include electronic Ids, night vision goggles and range finders, among other devices worth millions. The missing gear includes hundreds of night-vision goggles and missing weapons accessories worth about US$630,000 (NZ$795,000), said Major Chris Ophardt, a spokesman for the US Army’s I Corps at Joint Base Lewis-McChord in Washington state.
From Army major to thieves : You cannot become Rambo with that stuff !
The missing equipment is not dangerous to the public by itself, since the accessories attach to military-grade weapons and take specialised training to operate, Ophardt said.
“You can’t just attach it and go out and become Rambo,” he said.
US Army Col. Matt Hinkle says the entire 4th Brigade from the Second Infantry Division is under probe at the base.
Us Army under stress of constant thievery attempts
This is the second such occurrence after 14,000 rounds of 5.56 mm ammunition valued at 3,600 dollars disappeared from the 82nd Division in September from Ft. Bragg, NC., and two soldiers were arrested. Suspicions and fears suggest the stolen property of US army can be used in terrorists attacks on US soil. Us intelligence however counts out a possible terrorist attack, where stolen military tech will be used. An anonymous military officer says, the goods triple their values in the blackmarket, where they eventually will appear.
