Islamabad, Dec 21/Nationalturk- In yet another attack on health workers, militants shot dead supervisor of an anti-polio vaccination campaign in Jamrud tehsil of restive Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province in Pakistan on Saturday.

“Two militants barged into the office of supervisor Ghilaf Khan’s in Jamrud, where he was administered polio drops the children. The gunmen asked the women and children present in the room to leave the place,” official sources said.

They said the militants fired at the supervisor, leaving him in pool of blood  and escaped from the area.

They said the injured supervisor was shifted to Jamrud Civil Hospital,  where doctors declared him brought death dead.

‘Militants left a threat note’

Officials said before fleeing from the area, militants left a note threatening the polio workers of the same fate as that of supervisor.

Immediately after the attack, police and security men launched a massive combing operation in the area to flush out the militants responsible for the attack. However, no arrests were reported.

Although no militant group has owned the responsibility, but Pakistani security officials fear that Tehreek-e-Taliban  Pakistan (TTP) terrorists may be behind the attack.

On December 13, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan had decided to kick off a campaign against polio in Khyber Pakhunkhwa province where his party heads the coalition government.

‘Polio workers are soldiers of Islam’

Declaring polio workers as “soldiers of Islam”, Imran  had said those attacking them were not doing any justice to humanity, Islam or Pakistanis.
