Four policemen were killed in a militant attach in Indian administered Kashmir on Friday evening.

Srinagar, April 26/Nationalturk – In a major strike, militants Friday evening attacked a police party in Indian administered Kashmir, killing four policemen.

A police official said a group of militants fired from AK-47 rifles towards a police party near Haigam, Sopore, some 65 kms North of Srinagar, summer capital of Indian administered Kashmir, on Saturday evening.

“The fire was returned by the policemen, triggering an encounter. In the ensuing firefight, which lasted for some minutes, four policemen were killed,” they said.

The dead policemen have been identified as Abdul Rehman, Mudasir Ahmad, Gulshan and Mudasir Ahmad Parray.

Sources said militants have decamped with weapons of the dead policemen

Immediately after the militant attack, police and paramilitary soldiers laid siege around the area and launched a massive manhunt to track down the militants responsible for the attack.

Police probing phone call

Sources said police had received a phone call that robbery had taken place in the area. “Once the police party landed in the area to ascertain the facts, they came under heavy volume of fire from the militants”.

They said the phone call made to police about robbery was also being traced. “It could have been a hoax call from militants to lead the police party into a trap”.
