Mid-West America hit by devastating Tornado and storms

Authorities in the United States have confirmed that at least seven people have died after tornadoes ripped through the mid-West of the country.

Ohio was worst hit by the storms with all seven deaths, occurring in the state according to the Ohio Emergency Management Agency said on Sunday.

Three of the deaths occurred in the town of Millbury where a four year old child, a man found dead in the middle of a street and a mother who was going to the Lake Township police department for shelter with her family.

According to a police report, the woman who had given her baby to a police officer had been hit by the tornado sweeping her of the ground. The husband, baby and police officer had managed to get into the police station.

A motorist was also killed on the State Rt. 795 as the tornado moved across the area but there have not been any reports over the circumstances of the other deaths.

Ohio state media have also reported that at least 50 homes have been completely destroyed with vehicles and buses flung through the air into the gardens of homes.

There has also been reports of electricity failures, tree’s being uprooted and branches being flung into the air.

Mark Hummer, Police Chief of Ohio’s Lake Township has described some of the areas “like a war zone.”

Illinois, Michigan, Indiana, Iowa and Vermont were also affected by the storms.

Authorities in Michigan closed down the Fermi nuclear power plant after a tornado demolished a building bringing down a wall.
