Merkel flies second class to Fuerteventura
Vacation on Fuerteventura: Former Chancellor Angela Merkel and her husband treated themselves to it – but the two did without extra comfort on the plane.
Former Chancellor Angela Merkel apparently foregoes any special luxuries on the plane when she travels on vacation. This emerges from a report in the newspaper “Bild”. Accordingly, Merkel flew with her husband Joachim Sauer on vacation to the Canary Island of Fuerteventura – and spent the flight in economy class.
According to “Bild”, the plane was an Airbus 320-200 from the airline Eurowings. As is usual for the so-called wooden class, the plane has three tightly packed seats on both sides of the aisle.
This is how Merkel spent the flight
Pictures show Merkel sitting on a window seat and wearing a face mask. During the flight, she read her tablet, did crossword puzzles and ate a sandwich and peppers, according to “Bild”.
When boarding and exiting the plane, however, Merkel enjoyed some advantages compared to the other passengers: According to information from “Bild”, she was accompanied to the plane by several people and was allowed to board first. After landing, security personnel picked up the ex-Chancellor.
According to the report, Merkel and her husband spent the vacation itself in a 4-star hotel on the Canary Island.
