United have settled on the 62-year-old Dutchman as the successor to David Moyes but will not make a formal announcement until after the end of the Barclays Premier League season.

The Dutchman was last involved in club management with Bayern Munich from 2009 to 2011, but his tenure was ended when he was sacked by the German side.
