Turkish delight for Manchester United ! Borussia Dortmund star of the successful German-Turkish Midfielder Ilkay Gundogan is coming.
He gives us the latest on Borussia Dortmund midfielder Ilkay Gundogan’s future with Manchester United keen on signing the talented German-Turkish.
Manchester United are ready to make a £24million bid to land Borussia Dortmund midfielder Ilkay Gundogan.
Manchester United boss David Moyes is an admirer of IlkayGundogan and is keen to land the 23-year-old Germany international this month.
Although Gundogan has not played for the Bundesliga side side since August because of a back injury, that has not the Red Devils off pursuing him.
It is understood that Gundogan’s representatives have held talks with United, who are desperate to bolster their midfield options.
Michael Zorc, the club’s sporting director, has now asked for some clarity on Ilkay Gundogan future, with his current deal set to expire in 2015. He said he is ‘not fond of ultimatums,’ and that the ‘other party needs to understand’ he cannot wait for Gundogan to make a decision. ‘Our top priority is to find out if there is a willingness to prolong the contract,’ he went on to say.
Aki Watzke, Borussia Dortmund’s CEO, has reiterated this point, claiming that a ‘timely decision’ is needed by the player.
The player claims that his attention, for now, is on recovering from his injury, and not a potential £25m move.
‘I’m still having pain,’ he said. ’I am not top fit just yet and I’m not completely pain free at the moment. I still have pain in my hip, calf and shin. My main objective is to get fully healthy again. Once I’ve achieved that, I want to give my all again.’
David Moyes has repeatedly conceded that it is difficult to sign players in January but what is likely to make the deal for Ilkay Gundogan even more difficult is Real Madrid’s reported interest. They also have Nuri Sahin out on loan at the German club and could use him as a bargaining tool in the deal.
Given Woodward’s incompetence in the market last time the transfer window was open, Manchester United fans obviously won’t be holding their breath, but a player of Gundogan’s quality could make all the difference to what has been, so far, a dreadful season.
Ilkay Gundogan still has 18 months remaining on his contract with Dortmund and has been urged by them to make up his mind over his future.
