Until now it was just a guess, now it’s apparently certainty: Flight MH370 has crashed over the southern Indian Ocean. An analysis of satellite data have confirmed this, Malaysia’s Prime Minister Najib Razak announced.
The flight of the Boeing disappeared from Malaysia Airlines ended in the southern Indian Ocean. That was the result of an analysis of satellite data, it said Prime Minister Najib Razak of Malaysia. For the last time the machine was therefore located west of the Australian city of Perth. “With great sadness and regret that I must inform you that flight MH370 ended after this new information in the southern Indian Ocean,” Razak said at a press conference.
The new analysis came from the satellite company Inmarsat , which had caught the last electronic signals of the aircraft with 239 people on board . From hourly pings , they calculated a course. Open this however remains the question of a possible price correction .
The airline had informed the families of the passengers that the plane had crashed into the sea , Razak said. He was very sad. The fate of the aircraft is without precedent . On Tuesday (local time) there should be another press conference in which more details will be announced . ( Read the complete statement here). According to BBC Malaysian Airlines have sent a text message , was in informing them that there were no survivors.
A big surprise is not the result of the analysis. Even in recent days, the search had focused on different areas of the marine region . Even the sighting of several possible wreckage in the area thousands of kilometers south-west of Australia fits the result of the analysis . However, it is unclear whether the goods actually originate from the aircraft .
The Boeing 777 was on 8 March with 239 people on board on the way from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing disappeared from radar screens . Later it turned out that flight MH370 must still be on for hours flown with changed route.
