Andy Murray wins gold in the men’s tennis final after beating Roger Federer 6-2 6-1 6-4 at Wimbledon. There are tears in Andy Murray’s eyes but this time they are tears of joy. And he’s off, clambering his way into players’ box to hug his girlfriend Kim, his coaches, and lastly his mother. Roger Federer, meanwhile trudges off the court a beaten man.

Andy Murray has been crowned the Olympic champion after beating Roger Federer on Centre Court. The British No 1, who was reduced to tears just 28 days ago after losing this year’s Wimbledon final, came flying out of the blocks to take the first set with two breaks of Federer’s serve. The seven-times Wimbledon champion then went almost an hour without winning a game as Murray tied up the second set 6-1, before winning the third to claim a straight-sets victory and Olympic gold.
