Does he stay or does he go? Robert Lewandowski’s future is still unclear. Polish media reported on Monday of a safe departure and move to Spain. But is that true?
There is still a big question mark behind Robert Lewandowski’s sporting future at Bayern Munich. According to Polish media reports, the 33-year-old top scorer has now made a decision and no longer sees his future with the German record champions. Lewandowski has therefore agreed with FC Barcelona on a change in the summer. However, the reports should be treated with caution.
Just one day before the so important CL second leg against FC Villarreal, new Lewandowski rumors cause a lot of unrest on Säbener Straße. As the two Polish portals “Sport Interia” and “TVP Sport” unanimously announced on Monday, the Fifa world footballer decided against extending his contract with FC Bayern. Accordingly, the top scorer will be drawn to Spain next summer to FC Barcelona. The Catalans and Lewandowski are said to have already agreed on a three-year deal until 2025. The two portals refer to sources “from the player’s environment”.
Lewandowski has not made a decision yet
The rumors surrounding Lewandowski and Barcelona are not new. There have already been numerous reports in the past few weeks, but these usually came from Spain. But what about the current reports from Poland? According to information from “SPORT1” and “BILD” relatively little.
“SPORT1” chief reporter Kerry Hau has already denied that Lewandowski would have opted for FC Barcelona and against FC Bayern. According to Hau, a Bayern farewell in the summer is possible, but before the attacker makes a decision, he would first like to wait for talks with the Bayern bosses about extra time.
There are also initial denials from Poland. As Piotr Kozminski from “Sportowe Fakty” reports, “nothing has been decided and nothing has been agreed yet”. Neither Lewandowski nor Bayern would be in contact with Barcelona. Kozminski bases his report on information he received directly from Lewandowski management.
Bayern are under pressure
One thing is clear: Even if the current reports from Poland turn out to be wrong, the pressure on Bayern is increasing. The Munich team is still not holding any contract talks with Lewandowski. The longer you wait, the more unrest this topic will cause and that in a phase of the season in which the focus should be on sports.
The striker is contractually bound to the German record champions until 2023. According to reports, both sides would like to have clarity by the summer as to whether and how things will continue after the current season. As of today, it is completely open whether Lewandowski will extend his contract on the Isar again or whether he will say goodbye to FCB after seven very successful years. According to reports, this depends largely on whether the club and the player can agree on the salary.
