The multi-phase polling to elect 543 members of India parliament will end today and counting of vote will be held on May 16.

New Delhi, May 12/Nationalturk- The last phase of polling to elect 41 parliament members is underway in India with moderate to heavy turnout reported from most parts of the country.

The multi-phase election to election 543 members for Indian parliament will end today as the last phase of polling to elected 41 parliamentary members was going on in many states including most populated State of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and West Bengal.

Officials said moderate to heavy polling was going on in most of the polling stations in West Bengal. “The turnout at 1pm stood at 56%.”

In the State of Bihar, average to moderate polling with reported. “By 1pm, 37.86% voting had taken place in Bihar,” officials said.

They said Uttar Pradesh also witnessed average to moderate polling. At 1 pm, the turnout in Varanasi, where from rightwing Hindu party BJP’s prime ministerial  candidate Narendra Modi is contesting elections, was recorded at 35%.

Some voters in Varanasi complained that voting process is slow. “It is becoming difficult for us to stand in queue in the scorching heat”.

42 candidates are in the fray for the high profile Varanasi parliamentary seat which has 1.7 million registered voters. Thousands of police and paramilitary soldiers were deployed to ensure smooth conduct of polls.

506 million people have already exercised their franchise

Over 506 million people have already exercised their franchise in 502 constituencies where polling has already been held in eight phases.

The counting of votes will be held on May 16 and it is expected that all results would be out by the evening.

According to surveys and exit polls, rightwing Hindu party BJP will be the largest single party with maximum number of seats.

According to these surveys, BJP along with its allies will form the next government in India and controversial Narendra Modi, who is being blamed for anti-Muslim riots in his home state of Gujarat, is likely to be next prime minister of the country.

The TV channels will start beaming exit polls from this evening.
