Director Robert Rodriguez has announced singer Lady Gaga is to appear in his next film, Machete Kills. This news has surprised both – the movie and music industry.

The singer Lady Gaga becomes the latest entry in an impressive round of stunt casting by the director of Sin City and From Dusk Til Dawn, Robert Rodriguez. Rodriguez has already cast Charlie Sheen as the president of the US and Mel Gibson as eccentric billionaire arms dealer Luther Voz.

On the main Machete Kills movie poster Lady Gaga is pictured topless, but covered by a dead wolf she’s draped around her, a golden pistol with a smoking silencer in her right hand. She’s wearing a glamorous blonde Marilyn Monroe-style wig and matching yellow bottoms with thigh-high stockings.

The singer Lady Gaga posted on her Twitter feed in response : ‘ Yes its true, I will be making my debut as an actress ln the amazing Machete Kills… I’m so excited!!! Ah! Filming was insane. ‘

Lady Gaga is going to play a woman named La Chameleon, in a new character poster for the film called Machete Kills. Lady Gaga as La Chameleon sports a classy wolfskin coat (complete with actual wolf’s head), a basque and a stylish shooter. The film will once again star Danny Trejo as the former Mexican federale turned ultimate badass, alongside Amber Heard, Jessica Alba, Zoe Saldana, Sofia Vergara and Damian Bichir.

This time round, Machete is recruited by the United States president for a mission that, according to the synopsis, would be impossible for any mortal man. He must battle his way through Mexico to take down a cartel leader, Mendez the Madman, who threatens to fire a missile on the United States.

Machete Kills by Robert Rodriguez is due to hit cinema screens in 2013.
