Kyrgyzstan’s parliament elected its new speaker on Friday, ending a political deadlock in the country, the first Central Asian state to move towards parliamentary democracy.
Akmatbek Keldibekov, chairman of Ata Zhurt (Motherland) Party, was elected new speaker of Kyrgyzstan Parliament.
Three parties, the Ata Zhurt (Motherland), the Social Democratic Party of Kyrgyzstan and Respublika agreed to form a governing coalition after weeks-long uncertainty.
