The Red Cross officials in Kenya have confirmed to reporters that at least, 41 people have been killed in a bus crash near the town of Narok which is located in the western part of the capital Nairobi.

The was said bus to have been travelling from the capital Nairobi to the town of Homa Bay on Lake Victoria and was about halfway into the journey, when it accidentally veered off the road and plunged into a valley, rolling over several times before landing flat on the ground.

Police traffic officer in the area, Samuel Kimaru who spoke to reporters, blamed the accident on over speeding and reckless driving by the driver and added that they are having difficulty in retrieving all the dead bodies.

“It is a horrible scene, bodies are strewn all over, it is difficult to tell exactly what happened but all indications point to speeding and possibly overloading, we are having a difficult time recovering the bodies because this place is hilly and bushy.”

“We’ve dozens others injured and we are not certain how many because they were taken to various hospitals, we have officers checking with the hospitals, Mr. Kimaru said.

Kenya highways lack safety features such as crash barriers and reflective signs for night-time drivers and drivers too over speed making passengers prone to accident.
