Srinagar, June 16: The senior separatist Kashmiri leader, Syed Ali Geelani on Wednesday urged youth to pelt stones only in self-defence and not target ambulances and civilian vehicles.
Geelani, who was released on bail by a court last night, visited the residence of teenager Tufail Ahmad on Wednesday. The teenager was allegedly killed in police action during clashes on Friday, triggering anti-India protests.
Addressing the mourners, the senior separatist leader urged youth to shun stone pelting. “Stone pelting is not justified if it is done for the sake of fun or creating fear psychosis.”
Geelani said youth should only pelt stones in self defence if police and Indian troopers use force against innocent civilians. “The ambulances and civilian vehicles should not be targeted during protest demonstrations,” he said and urged youth to maintain discipline during the protests.
Condemning the killing of teenager in police action, he alleged that India is committing genocide of Kashmiris. “The Indian soldiers and police are killing innocent youth by firing bullets and tear smoke canisters,” he said and urged the world human rights organizations to press India to stop human rights violations in the region.
