Karim Benzema honors deceased music star with his outfit
Karim Benzema has been voted the best footballer of 2022. He used the big stage on Monday evening for a very special tribute.
A “childhood dream” has come true for Karim Benzema. The professional is the winner of this year’s Ballon d’Or, the award for the best footballer.
The prize has been awarded by the French football magazine France Football since 1956. In a chic evening outfit, the 34-year-old came on stage on Monday and accepted the trophy. There was a message behind his choice of outfit.
Instead of the usual Real Madrid jersey, Benzema was seen in a black suit at this public appearance. Including a white shirt, a black collar detail with a gold-colored button and gold-colored metal glasses.
Attentive observers will have noticed that the football star was inspired by a deceased megastar when choosing his fashion: Tupac wore a very similar look at the 1996 American Music Awards in Los Angeles, including the gold-colored glasses.
The late hip-hop legend is an idol of the Frenchman. Benzema has already dedicated one or two posts to him on his Instagram channel. There he now seems to confirm that his outfit was actually dedicated to the artist: he reposted a story from the “Marca” sports magazine, which speaks of a “tribute” to Tupac by Benzema.
Tupac Amaru Shakur was born in 1971 and later became world famous as a rapper. At the age of 25, the American was seriously injured in a shooting in 1996 and died in hospital a few days later. The murder has not been solved to this day.
