The Netherlands is responsible for the deportation of 300 men in the Srebrenica massacre in the Bosnian war. This has been found by a court in The Hague. 1995 killed 8,000 Muslims.

Almost two decades after the Srebrenica genocide has made the Dutch government for the deportation of some 300 victims partly responsible by a court. A civil court in The Hague on Wednesday for the first time did so partly responsible for war crimes, the home country of a UN force. The action brought by the relatives of the victims, the “Mothers of Srebrenica”, was upheld in part.

The Netherlands is not responsible for the fall of the former UN protection zone and thus the death of all 8,000 victims, the court ruled. Yet the Dutch UN peacekeepers had unlawfully participated in the deportation of 300 men, though she already knew about the impending genocide.

In the war in Bosnia Serb forces had overrun the UN-protected zone of Srebrenica in July 1995 and some 8000 Muslim men and boys murdered. The Dutch UN peacekeepers had the Enclave over to the Serbs under the command of General Ratko Mladic without a fight.

The Dutch Justice has already made last September the government liable for the deaths of three men in Srebrenica. The massacre is the most serious war crime in Europe since the end of World War II and was classified as genocide.
