Jenna Fischer makes her fight against cancer public

In a new Instagram post, Jenna Fischer now reveals that she was diagnosed with cancer in 2023. How is the "The Office" star doing today?

Jenna Fischer became known worldwide through the series “The Office”.

As secretary Pam Beesly, she not only delighted her office romance Jim Halpert, but also numerous fans. 3.9 million people follow the actress’ life on Instagram.

She now shares a stroke of fate with them: the 50-year-old was diagnosed with cancer last year. Treatment has already taken place.

“October is the month when we raise awareness of breast cancer. I never thought I would make such an announcement, but now the time has come. Last December, I was diagnosed with triple-positive stage 1 breast cancer,” Fischer writes in a new Instagram post, sharing particularly good news in the same breath: “After surgery, chemotherapy and radiation, I am now cancer-free.”

She draws attention to prevention

“I wanted a photo of me with my spotted pixie, looking happy and healthy, to accompany this message,” explains Fischer, who shares a picture with the text in which she can be seen in a good mood with the aforementioned short hairstyle and a headband. In another photo, she is also ringing a bell with a broad smile on her face. Her husband Lee Kirk and her children can be seen around her, celebrating their victory over cancer with confetti cannons. Fischer also gives a detailed insight into the fight against the disease. Exactly one year ago, in October 2023, she reminded people on Instagram of the need for breast cancer screening and had herself examined at the time. During a breast ultrasound, her doctor discovered an abnormality that turned out to be an aggressive form of cancer after a biopsy.

Now she is ready to “throw away the wigs”

In February, Fischer began chemotherapy, and last June her breasts were irradiated. Due to the chemo, she experienced hair loss, which she concealed with wigs and hats. As can be seen in her current photo, her hair has since grown back. Now she is ready to “throw away the wigs”.

As the actress explains in her post, she is still taking medication, but feels “great” today. With her post, she wants to call for people to have a mammogram, i.e. an X-ray of the breast, every year. Her tumor “was so small that you couldn’t feel it during a physical examination.”
