Jada Pinkett Smith speaks out after Oscar scandal
Will Smith’s slap in the face of presenter Chris Rock at the Oscars for making a joke at the expense of Jada Pinkett Smith made headlines around the world. Now the wife of the Oscar winner speaks out.
That’s it: Chris Rock was only supposed to announce the best documentary at the 94th Academy Awards. But what happened then surprised everyone involved in the hall and in front of the television sets. After Rock made a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith and her hair loss from alopecia, her husband Will Smith took the stage – and gave the comedian a juicy slap in the face. Rock looked more than irritated after the hit, Smith left the stage. The attacker has since apologized publicly. Jada is now also speaking publicly.
It is Jada’s first statement on the Oscar scandal
The 50-year-old now speaks on her Instagram profile. She posts a simple message. On a pink background is written in black letters: “This is the time to heal and I am ready for it.” No further explanation was given for the post, the message should obviously speak for itself.
In just a few hours, the actress’ post was liked over 70,000 times. However, there are no comments below. The “Gotham” star limited the comment function on the social media app. This can also be understood as a statement that people on the Internet should not argue about it.
Her husband has already apologized for his behavior. In an Instagram post, he wrote: “Violence in all its forms is toxic and destructive.” The jokes at his expense were part of the job, but a joke about his wife Jada’s health was too much for him and he reacted emotionally. “I want to publicly apologize to you, Chris,” Smith continued in the lengthy statement.
