Irish Grinstead dies at 43

Irish Grinstead enjoyed great success with their group 702 in the 90s. Now the R&B singer has died at the age of just 43.

Irish Grinstead, former member of R&B group 702, has died aged 43. Her sister LaMisha Grinstead shared the news of her death on Instagram. She expressed her sadness in the statement and explained that Irish had been struggling with health issues for some time.

The cause of Grinstead’s death has not been revealed. However, LaMisha indicated that her sister had a serious illness. “She had to fight a long battle, but now she has finally found peace. This woman shone as bright as the stars!”

The group enjoyed particular success in the 1990s. The three singers (in addition to the two Grinstead sisters, Kameelah Williams) made their debut in 1996 with the album “No Doubt”. They gained popularity with hits such as “Steelo”, which also featured Missy Elliott and which became the theme song of the Nickelodeon show “Cousin Skeeter”.

Her 1999 self-titled album then spawned the hit “Where My Girls At”, which became her biggest chart success. The group’s last album together, “Star”, was released in 2003 before they eventually disbanded in 2006 to pursue solo careers. A reunion took place in 2017, but no new album was released.

During their existence, 702’s music was heard in films such as “Little Stuart” and “Good Burger.” The African-American girl group also received nominations for various awards, including the American Music Awards and the BET Awards.

LaMisha Grinstead described her late sister as a loving and smart person in a post on Instagram. The two’s twin sister, Orish Grinstead, died of kidney failure in 2008 at the age of 27. She was a founding member of the R&B trio 702, but soon left.
