According to several media outlets, Iran’s Red Crescent Society will try to break the Israeli embargo on the Gaza strip through the Egypt border and sea by sending food and medical supplies “in the next few days”.

According to officials, two ships will be sent to the Gaza coat with one containing humanitarian aid and the other being a hospital ship with doctors, nurses and operating rooms.

It is alleged that Iran may send the country’s Revolutionary Guard naval units which are known for their loyalty to Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

According to Abdul Rauf Adibzadeh, a representative of Iran’s Red Crescent Society who spoke to the state media, relief goods will arrive in Gaza as early as Friday this week via Egypt who temporarily opened their borders after mounting pressure from the Arab world especially after the Flotilla raid which left nine activists dead.

Iran have openly condemned Israel over the Turkish lead aid Flotilla which was raided by the Israeli Defense Forces that led to the death of eight Turkish nationals and an American Turkish dual citizen.

If Iran does send the Revolutionary Guard naval units, which have a separate command structure from the regular armed forces of Iran, this will surely cause extreme hostility between the two nations which have openly condemned each other’s actions, both in the past and present.

Iran has been accusing Israel of States terrorism on Gaza’s Muslim residents and that the embargo on the Gaza strip is inhumane.

Iranian and Israeli relations came to an end after the 1979 Iranian Islamic revolution. Iran has fiercely condemned Israel over the Flotilla raid on Monday which led to the death of nine activists.

Turkey and Iran’s relations have also increased under the Justice and Development Party (AKP) government led by Turkey’s Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who also condemned Israel for the Flotilla aid ship raid and accused Israel of State terrorism.

Turkey and Iran have also secured their bonds after Turkey accepted a deal which will hold Iran’s Uranium for enrichment in Turkish soil

Israel has been accusing Iran of build nuclear weapons and backing Hamas which violently took over the Gaza strip in July 2007.

Hojjatoleslam Ali Shirazi, Khamenei’s personal representative, pledged to the guards corp that “Iran’s Revolutionary Guard naval forces are prepared to escort the peace and freedom convoys that carry humanitarian assistance for the defenceless and oppressed people of Gaza with all their strength”.

Israel has also defended its right to continue the blockade on the Gaza Strip, saying that Iran would use the Gaza strip to transport missiles and that Hamas will be able to attack Tel Aviv and Jerusalem. The Israeli government has also said that their aim is to weaken the Hamas government which occupies the Gaza strip.
