TEHRAN / NationalTurk – Iranian and Russian officials in a meeting in Moscow conferred on the latest developments in Syria, and stressed their support for President Bashar Assad’s reform plan.

Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian and his Russian counterpart Mikhail Bogdanov declared Tehran and Moscow administration’s support for continuity of reforms in Syria.

Russia and Iran : Syria unrest is a plot from USA, Israel and its Arab allies

The two sides discussed bilateral, regional and international issues in detail and focused on ever-troubled Middle East and considered the raging situation in Syria, Bahrain and Yemen, and underlined common stance of Iran and Russia on the regional developments.

‘Syrian president Basgar al-Assad has done a lot in recent months to reform laws and conditions in Syria’ the Iranian and Russian joint announcement read. The Syrian president announced the end to the state of emergency, granted citizenship to many Syrian Kurds and promised parliamentary elections later this year. In January, he issued the latest of thousands of amnesties for those detained since the uprising began.

Iran supports Syrian president Assad’s ‘reforms’

Syria also in February held a referendum on the country’s new constitution. More than 14 million Syrians over 18 could vote and almost 90 % of the voters approved a new constitution in the referendum.

Under the new charter, freedom is ‘a sacred right’ and ‘the people will govern the people’ in a multi-party democratic system based on Islamic law, the state television in Syria reported.

The document allows multiple political parties to compete in elections for the legislature, sets a limit of two seven-year terms on the president, and eliminates a clause that guarantees political supremacy to Assad’s Ba’ath Party.

Iran : Afraid to mention that more than 10000 Syrians killed ?

Syria has been experiencing unrest since mid-March with organized attacks by well-armed gangs against Syrian police forces and border guards being reported across the country.

Hundreds of people, including members of the security forces, have been killed, when some protest rallies turned into armed clashes.

The Syrian government blames outlaws, saboteurs, and armed terrorist groups for the deaths, stressing that the unrest is being orchestrated from abroad. But these allegations met with grave pictures and footage when President Bashar al-Assad, who inherited Syria’s harsh dictatorship from his father, Hafez al-Assad, at first wavered between force and hints of reform. But in April, just days after lifting Syria’s decades-old state of emergency, he set off the first of what became a series of withering crackdowns, sending tanks into restive cities as security forces opened fire on demonstrators. More than 10 000 are confirmed dead in Syria protests.

The Iranian media state that Syrian unrest is controlled by USA and Israel. Iran says : ” In October, calm was eventually restored in the Arab state after President Assad started a reform initiative in the country, but Israel, the US and its Arab allies are seeking hard to bring Syria into chaos through any possible means. Tel Aviv, Washington and some Arab capitals have been staging various plots in the hope of stirring unrests in Syria once again.”

Israel : Military action against Iran expected

With Israel speaking increasingly loudly of resorting to military action, the talks could provide some respite in a crisis that has driven up oil prices and threatened to suck the United States into its third major war in a decade.

The United Nations and countries around the world have condemned the crackdown and Syrian President Assad, a British-trained doctor who many had hoped would soften his father’s iron-handed regime. Criticism has come from unlikely quarters, like Syria’s close neighbors, Jordan and Turkey, and the Arab League.

No matter what or who is plotting against each other it is that the Syrian people suffer most.
