India’s central Bank – Reserve Bank of India (RBI) – has asked people not to use banknotes for making garlands and decorating pandals.
New Delhi, Sept 12/Nationalturk – In order to increase the life of currency notes, India’s central Bank – Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has asked public not to use banknotes for making garlands and decorating pandals.
“The Reserve Bank of India appeals public not to use banknotes for making garlands, decorating pandals and places of worship or for showering on personalities in social events,” said Principal Chief General Manager RBI Alpana Killawala.
She said such actions (making garlands and decorating pandals with currency notes) deface the banknotes and shorten their life.
It has become a routine in India to make garlands of bank notes. Besides, on marriages, festivals and other such occasions, people make use of garlands of banknotes. It has also become a norm in most parts of India to shower bank notes on personalities during social events.
‘Banknotes must be respected’
“The banknotes should be respected as they are a symbol of the sovereign and public should not misuse them and help in increasing the life of banknotes,” Alpana said.
She said RBI has been taking all measures to supply clean banknotes across India. “We urge the members of public to contribute their mite to its efforts in pursuing a ‘clean note policy’ for the country”.
