Indian space rocket explodes

A space rocket bearer of a cutting-edge communications satellite made in India exploded on Saturday after being launched from the space center of Sriharikota, southeastern India.

According to an official of the Indian Space Research Organization quoted by news agency IANS, the failure took place in the second stage of the launch.

The rocket, exploded minutes after abandoned the launched pad, carried the communications satellite GSAT-5P, which shall substitute the INSAT-2E, in orbit since 1999.

The launch was suspended after detecting a leak in one of the valves of the cryogenic Russian-made motor.
