India has witnessed 4.3 per cent growth rate in Foreign Tourist Arrivals (FTAs) among BRIC nations comprising Brazil, Russia, India and China.

New Delhi, Dec 9/Nationalturk – Indian Tourism Minister K Chiranjeevi Monday said India has witnessed 4.3 per cent growth rate in Foreign Tourist Arrivals (FTAs) among BRIC nations comprising Brazil, Russia, India and China in 2012.

While sharing information about FTAs among BRIC nations, Indian tourism Minister told Indian lower house of parliament (Lok Sabha) that 6.6 million foreign tourists arrived in India in 2012.

“The FTAs in India witnessed a growth rate of 4.3 per cent,” he said.

‘China witnessed only 0.3% growth rate in FTAs’

Chiranjeevi said 5.7 million foreign tourists visited Brazil in 2012 with country witnessing 4.5 per cent growth rate in inflow of foreign tourists.

“25.7 million foreign tourists visited Russia in 2012. The country had 13.4 per cent grow rate in foreign tourist inflow. Similarly, at least 57.7 million foreign tourists visited China last year. The country only witnessed 0.3 per cent growth rate in arrival of foreign tourists,” he said.

The minister said this dispels notion that India had recorded slowest growth in Foreign Tourist Arrivals (FTAs) among BRIC nations.

Asked about foreign tourist arrivals this year, Indian tourism minister said the figures for the year are not available as year is still to end.
