New Delhi, July 18/ Nationalturk – A day after Malaysia Airlines Boeing 777 was shot down by a missile over eastern Ukraine killing all 298 people on board, India has decided to divert their flights from the conflict zone of Ukraine.
An Indian official spokesman said Civil Aviation Ministry has ordered country’s international flight carriers Air India and Jet Airways to divert their flights from the conflict zone of Ukraine.
Air India and Jet Airways are the only two Indian airlines to fly to Europe and America.
The official said the measure has been taking following a Malaysian Airlines Boeing 777 Flight MH17 enroute from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur with 298 people aboard, being shot down in eastern Ukraine near the Russian border on Thursday.
Indian Civil Aviation ministry said that there was no Air India flight near the ill-fated Malaysian plane at the time of the incident.
‘No Indian was on board in Malaysian plane’
Asked whether any Indian citizen was aboard in the downed Malaysian plane, the official said “As per information received so far, there was no Indian aboard the ill- fated plane”.
Ukraine airspace is traditionally one of the busiest as flights connecting Europe and Asia transit through this region.
All 298 people on the Malaysia Airlines plane MH17 were killed after the aircraft was shot down over war-torn eastern Ukraine near the Russian border.
Ukraine government has blamed rebels for downing of the plane and its security services claimed to have produced what they said two intercepted telephone conversations that said showed rebels were responsible for downing a Malaysian airliner.
Indian PM condoles loss of lives
Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, has condoled the loss of lives in the downing of Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of those, who lost their lives on board Flight MH17. We stand with them in this hour of grief,” he said in his message.
