Indian government has imposed ban on journalistic activities by foreign tourists on a tourist visa in the country.

New Delhi, Jan 3/Nationalturk – Indian government has banned journalistic activities by foreign nationals on a tourist visa in the country.

An official spokesman said Ministry of Home Affairs has noticed that foreigners coming on tourist visa are involved in coverage of events/journalistic activities.

“The tourist Visa is not the appropriate visa for such activities by the foreigners,” he said.

The spokesman said tourist Visa is issued to foreigners, who do not have residence or occupation in India and whose sole objective of visiting India is recreation, sightseeing, casual visit to meet friends and relatives etc.

“No other activity is permissible on tourist visa in the country,” he said.

He said Ministry of Home Affairs has requested country’s External Affairs Ministry to convey the directive to all Indian missions/Posts abroad.

“Besides all State governments in India have been requested to ensure strict compliance,” added the spokesman.

According to India’s wire news agency, PTI, the action came after Indian government found that Roger Bilham, a geophysicist at the University of Colorado, had been visiting India since 1967 multiple times on tourist visa and was engaged in journalistic activities.
