Hugo Chávez is stable and recovering well in Havana, Cuba with family at his side, where doctors removed a cancer tumour from Venezuelan president’s pelvic region.
Havana / NationalTurk – Hugo Chavez, the Venezuelan President was successfully operated in Havana by a medical team of Brazilian and Russian doctors, led by Cuban surgeons and is now in good physical condition and recovering well, the Executive Vice president of the Venezuelan Government, Elias Jaua announced.
‘President Chávez is in good physical condition,’ Elías Jaua declared in the main chamber of the Venezuelan National Assembly, prompting a standing ovation and cries of ‘Onward, comandante’.’ ‘A total extraction of the diagnosed pelvic lesion was performed, removing also the tissue surrounding the lesion. The date for the surgery of Hugo Chavez was set as soon as possible bt the medical team and Chavez’s cancer treatment’s important surgery was carried out as it was planned. The tumour removal was a success and a recovery plan has been set for the coming days, stated the communiqué read by Elias Jaua.
Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez is in good physical condition accompanied by his family and he is in permanent contact with the Executive vice president and the Bolivarian Government.
Regarding the results of the surgery, the communique reveals that the diagnosed pelvic tumour was totally removed, as well as the issue surrounded the infected area. There were no complications related the local organs.

Hugo Chavez travelled to Cuba on Friday to undergo surgery due to a new injury, which appeared in the same place where a tumour with cancer cells was removed in June last year.

Dr Sebastian Quintero, an oncologist in neighbouring Colombia, stated the Chavez announcement from Elian Jaua did not add anything to what little is publicly known about Chávez’s health and cancer. ‘They have not said anything different from what was already known: that Chavez has a tumour in the area of the pelvis,’ Quintero pointed out. ‘The pelvis is a large cavity with several organs inside, including the prostate, part of the bladder, part of the colon, so it’s difficult to determine in what part the cancerous tumour is based. We’re left the same as before.’
Hugo Chávez, 57, declared last week that doctors in Cuba had found a new growth about one inch (2.5cm) in diameter in the same area where a baseball-sized cancerous tumour was removed last summer.
