Xinhua news agency of China reported that a number of staff have been suspended from work after the gruesome discovery by local residence.

TV footage of officials taking the body bags out of the water showed one that even wrote “medical waste”. Some of the babies are reported to have had the name tags of the mothers still on the arm and foot areas.

It is thought that a hospital nearby where the bodies were found is responsible for the anti human behavior.

Authorities had earlier said that the babies in which some were fetuses were that of babies who died from illnesses or aborted.

The Affiliated Hospital of Jining Medical College confirmed that the hospital was involved but not all the bags belonged to them.

It is not known how many bags were dumped in the Guangfu River where the bodies were initially found but it has outraged the Chinese people and has had worldwide attention.

Footage of the bodies being fished out of the river and bags lying on the side of the river was aired on a Chinese broadcasting website. Some of the bodies were out of the bags.

Abortion is a very common thing in China, where more than 13 million births are terminated every year in the world’s most populated country.

Most of the aborted belong to parents in urban areas due to the countries “one child policy”.

Most of the aborted fetuses are female as male offspring are favored by the Chinese.

Human rights groups have long protested China’s poor human rights record.
