Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Clinton apologized on Tuesday for using a personal email server while serving as America’s top diplomat.

“That was a mistake. I’m sorry about that. I take responsibility,” Clinton said in an exclusive interview with ABC News. “I’m trying to be as transparent as I possibly can.”

Clinton’s presidential campaign has been dogged by allegations of misconduct linked to her use of a private email server during her time as Secretary of State.

The State Department released the third tranche of emails from her private account at the end of August – the largest such release to date. Clinton previously handed over more than 55,000 pages of emails from the server to the State Department, and gave the Justice Department the private server and thumb drive.

A Quinnipac University poll taken at the end of August found that voters most frequently associated ‘liar’ with Clinton. ‘Dishonest,’ ‘untrustworthy’ and ‘criminal’ were a handful of other top words voters used to describe the former first lady (Anadolu Agency).
